On Thursday, August 27th, 2015, Providence Housing was fortunate to have close to 20 volunteers helping at two properties – Paul Wolk Commons and St. Salome Apartments. Each year, the University of Rochester coordinates a volunteer day called Wilson Day that takes place during freshman orientation. It is a way for all incoming freshman to get to know their new community and help make it thrive, as well as get to know some of their floor mates from their residence halls.

At Paul Wolk Commons, property manager Donna Granger led small team of students on several projects. One student organized the library on the 2nd floor, making it easier for residents to find books that interest them. Outside, several students built two raised plant beds and planted flowers, while others weeded, re-potted and transplanted flowers and plants into the rest of the yard. They had help from a few residents who got into the spirit of volunteering.

At the same time in Irondequoit, at St. Salome Apartments, a large group of students helped paint inside one of the apartments, while others outside cleared brush, weeded and spruced up the property. One of our long-time residents enjoyed getting outdoors to talk with the volunteers.

Providence Housing always appreciates groups or individuals who can offer time to volunteer. There are always projects that need volunteers. If your company or group would like to volunteer for Providence Housing, please contact us at (585) 529-9555.
